Rebecca Arday was born in Dallas, Texas. She relocated to Rochester, New York in 2002, where attended the School of American Crafts at Rochester Institute of Technology. She recently completed her BFA in Glass and Glass Sculpture, exploring glassblowing, flameworking, kilnforming, coldworking, and engraving. She is a member of the Glass Art Society and has worked and studied at the Corning Museum of Glass. She recently completed Pilchuck Glass School's Emerging Artist Residency and the RIT Student Exchange at the Bullseye Glass Factory in Portland.
Her sculpture is strongly influenced by history, collection, and storytelling. In her current work, she references Victorian sentiment in relation to the body. By using found objects, she plays off of their existing information, such as a monogram, and creates additions to complement their framework. Like historians looking for answers, the viewer is ultimately left to his or her imagination to complete the story.
